'Pethau Pawb' - A Library of Things. (Llanymddyfri/Llandovery)

Welcome to Llandovery’s Library of Things

Did you know that the cost of a new drill is around £50, but it is only used on average for 14 minutes in its lifetime?  Why buy when you can borrow?

Pethau Pawb – 5 Stryd Cerrig, Llanymddyfri, SA20 0BX.

We are in the centre of town, and there is a loading bay just opposite the shop where you can park for a short time to collect items.

Helen introduces the Library of Things.

How can I borrow?

In order to borrow, you will need to create an online member account or pop in to see us. You need to be age 18 or over, have an email address, have a valid debit or credit card that you can link to your account when you sign up and agree to our terms and conditions. The first time you borrow an item, you will also need to bring in photo ID such as a driving licence or utility bill.

Helen gives you an idea of the wide range of things that you can now borrow from the Library. And it’s growing all the time!

Do I have to pay to join?

No, Membership is free, and then you just pay a low rental for each loan. .

Why do you charge a fee to borrow?

We want to keep all of the items in use for as long as possible so that everyone has an opportunity to use them when they need to – rather than sitting in someone’s shed or attic and being used once or twice a year.  The money we make from fees goes towards covering some of our costs such as maintaining, replacing and repairing items, storing them safely and paying for insurance.

Helen advises Bridie from Pencader on how to set up a Library of Things.

Helen has worked closely with Pethau Pawb Emlyn, Newcastle Emlyn (Castell Newydd Emlyn), advising them on how to set up a Library of Things and helping them with promotion. We also work closely with ‘Benthyg Cymru’, providing us support and advice.

Rhys is our Library of things Curator and his skills at repairing and servicing the items we share out are invaluable. Rhys previously worked as a Teacher in Pembrokeshire College,  and now focuses on supporting his local community in Llandovery and can turn his hand to anything practical. He also volunteers with the Repair Café held at Pethau Pawb once a month.
