Community Funding
Community Fund (for community groups)
Since June 2016, our community wind turbine in Rhydygwydd, Salem, Llandeilo has been producing clean renewable energy through the energy captured by the wind. The turbine has now produced enough energy and money for us create these three special pots of money in order to support the ideas of young people, communities and businesses in Carmarthenshire to implement projects that seek to decarbonise communities and that act for the benefit of our climate, our local community economies and our natural world.
In 2024/5, we invested £29,172 in five projects through individual grants ranging between £1,000 and £10,000:
- Trimsaran Community Hall, contributing towards their instalment of solar panels for their community hall
- SERO, Carmarthen, to support their work on climate action through using the ‘Take the Jump‘ model to encourage systemic change
- Llyn Llech Owain Country Park, Gorslas to support their conservation project to monitor and protect the Willow Tit (currently on the red list of endangered native species in Wales)
- Butterfly HQ, Llanelli to support their project to engage with communities in Llanelli on sustainability issues
- Initiative for Nature Conservation Cymru on a project in Trap, Llandeilo to support their conservation project to protect local freshwater crayfish population
In 2023/4, we invested £31,000 in five projects through individual grants ranging from £300 and £10,000:
- Nantgaredig Rugby Club, contributing towards new solar panels on their clubs building
- Care and Repair Carmarthenshire, contributing towards their work in the county to install measures in homes across the county to reach energy efficiency
- Carmarthen Together, to help distribute and install radiator reflectors to households around Carmarthen town
- Menter Iaith Cwm Gwendraeth, contributing towards energy efficiency measures and instalment of the community building, Pafiliwn Penygroes
- Burry Port Library, contributing towards creating a warm space for the community
Chwyldro Fund (for children and young people)
We invite applications between £50 and £300 to support the ideas of young people and children across the county (between 8 and 18yrs old) to fund their ideas and projects that act for the benefit of the climate.

Between 2022 a 2025 we invested £10,894 in seven projects with young people across the county:
- Ysgol Uwchradd Bro Dinefwr, to develop a ‘Swap-Shop’ to save textile waste and promote and embed the notion of sharing and re-using clothes
- Ysgol Gynradd Drefach, Ysgol Gynradd Cross-Hands and Ysgol Gynradd Ty Croes, Ammanford, to support their ideas to create their own gardens so that they could grwo their own food therby lowering their carbon in relation to food miles
- Ysgol Gynradd Trimsaran to improve a patch of public land through planting native plants and apple trees
- Ynni Da, Carmarthenshire to visit and run renewable energy workshops in 29 of the county’s schools
- Pencader Orchard, supporting a group of young local people to establish their own community orchard
The Chwyldro grant for Carmarthenshire children and young people is enabling ‘Ynni Da’ to visit 29 schools in the county to teach about energy, electricity and energy efficiency in a fun way.
Very Low Interest Loans (for local businesses)
The purpose of this interest is to support local businesses to install sustainable energy systems or take positive action after installing buildings as part of the wider campaign to decarbonize Carmarthenshire.
